For In‑Game Artwork, thanks to:
- The MAME Artwork Team, which has at different times consisted of:
- Aaron Giles: MAMEDev, for initiating the purchase of artwork specifically to be scanned for MAME, and for maintaining the original team mailing list, in the beginning of the project
- TrevEB: Acquiring and scanning numerous pieces of arcade artwork
- Kiltron: Specializing in raster artwork cleanup
- Ars Invictus: Specializing in raster artwork cleanup
- Mr. Retrolust: Specializing in raster artwork cleanup
- UDb23: Specializing in artwork vectorization
- zorg: Specializing in artwork vectorization
- Comboman: Specializing in raster artwork cleanup
- jcroach: Specializing in artwork vectorization
- Nightvoice: Specializing in artwork vectorization
- Antny: Specializing in raster artwork cleanup
- Ad_Enuff: Specializing in raster artwork cleanup
- Special thanks to:
- KC and RocLobsta for creating MAMEWorld and originally hosting this site
- Rick from Dream Authentics for keeping MAMEWorld going
- Gene at Vintage Arcade Superstore (VAS) for opening up his warehouse to borrow any artwork needed for scanning and reference
- Pi for writing the original code for the Artwork download page
- hydef and DarthMarino for the amazing work on the various Game & Watch titles
- Twisty for setting up the MAMEWorld Artwork Forum
- MAMEDev support:
- Peter Hirschberg for creating Vector Dream, the first arcade emulator with in‑game artwork support, in April 1998
- Mathis Rosenhauer, Brandon Kirkpatrick,Christopher Kirmse, and Peter Hirschberg for adding the initial support of driver‑specific internal artwork to MAME during the 0.34 cycle, in December 1998
- Juergen Buchmueller for adding ZIP support for artwork files, during the 0.36 cycle, in December 1999
- Mathis Rosenhauer for adding 24‑bit artwork support, during the 0.37 cycle, in April 2000
- Aaron Giles for adding the first driver‑independent version of the artwork system, using ART files, during the 0.61 cycle, in July 2002
- Aaron Giles, for the video rendering system update during the 0.107 cycle, in May 2006. This introduced the XML‑formatted LAY file, support for ultra high‑quality artwork, multiple Views per artwork file, the ability to turn off specific layers of artwork, and other improvements
- Nathan Woods, for clickable input support in LAY files during the 0.128 cycle, in August 2008, which introduced the inputtag and inputmask attributes
- Vas Crabb for another overhaul of the artwork system, started during the 0.212 cycle in August 2019, and most recently updated during the 0.225 and 0.226 cycles, in September/October 2020. This removes the bezel/backdrop/overlay layer/blending system, and simplifies everything down to elements and screens, so that any blending mode can be added to any element or screen. Elements can be combined into Groups to be referenced more simply in a particular View; elements and screens can be combined into Collections, which you can toggle on/off within a View. Parameters can be used with the Repeat element to align elements within a View, without having to list it multiple times. And more
- hap for lending a hand when I get stuck on some of the more complicated stuff
- Additional thanks to:
- Nathan Strumm for many of the better‑quality artwork files that were originally at MAME.net, many of which are still in use today. You could say he was the pioneer of high‑quality MAME artwork.
- JoyMonkey and the following members from BYOAC who got together and purchased the CAG artwork collection: arcadefever, ChadTower, CheffoJeffo, cw, Davieboynj, Diverdown, edge, Jabba, JeepMonkey, JONTHEBOMB, Kremmit, Level42, MameMaster, McCoy178, Nicks, NinjaEpisode, Ninten‑doh, Oddfeld, somunny, Truecade, woodygjw
- Cutebutwrong and MAWS for using artwork as a reference in its database (while it was around).
- Roman of ClrMAME for teaching me how to make DAT files correctly.
- TAFA and Progetto Emma for serving as file mirrors during the beginning of the project.
- Mike at ClassicArcadeGrafix (CAG) for donating artwork at the beginning of the project.
- And a big, BIG thanks to all of the outside contributors, who have taken the time to restore, scan, donate, or take pictures of artwork, either from their original machines, or other sources. Without them, there would not be as much artwork here in the first place:
