What if there was an amalgamation of consoles coded into one completely new "console" as an emulator? I say "emulator" so as to avoid the aspect of building something from the ground up. But if that'd actually be easier...
I'm not talking about an all-systems emu. More like a chimera type of console where the chips/hardware from (let's say) the SNES are mixed in with chips/hardware from the Genesis/Mega-Drive. I could only think there'd be an issue with the programming language, but I don't know. Maybe there wouldn't be.
Obviously, there are no games that exist for such a system, but perhaps already existing games could still be used on it since they'd already have the hardware needed to play them within the "system".
Perhaps those same already existing games could be rewritten to take advantage of the other console's hardware.

I suppose when it comes down to it, this whole idea comes down to making the SNES faster and able to use more synth sounds or adding those sweet mode-7 effects to some of the MD titles.
All this from wondering what the port of SFII would be like with the SNES voices and the Genesis synth music. I'm sure it's a stupid idea, but it was a brain fart I felt compelled to dump here. Feel free to rip the idea apart or get into technical details of how/why something could never happen.
