Before the federal 2002 law had been created, I still preferred the Orange County, CA voting system setup where it was using punch cards compared to what other counties in CA were using at the time. When the computerized systems were then being offered to counties as a contract service with an an enclosed black box system that only the company technicians were allowed to handle, that set off alarm bells knowing behind scenes manipulation was possible and appropriately did concern folks that wanted fair elections to not be compromised or tainted.

That is why I was glad that proponents for an open system accountability like Brad Friedman had done with his radio shows and podcasts exposing the problems with enclosed black box computer voting systems back then.

I am glad that CA now uses the registration motor voter mail out system where everyone now gets into the voter registration system to make things easier for the mass public be registered to vote and receives voting related paperwork in the mail and can easily drop off their cast votes at a valid voting collection center. I am still suspicious with any of the voting computer systems that are still behind a black box operation. If a state had set up a state created designed open computer system setup that can be inspected by officials or anyone, I might be willing to use that to vote, but until that happens, I’ll stay with paper ballot.

For me, I wait until the day before making any votes on the paper ballot and then personally drop off my ballot at the poll center I go to vote on Election Day. The reason for that is in case a candidate unexpectedly drops out of a race at the last moment which has happened before in past elections

It used to be possible to believe that a state run controlled operation would be safe, but after seeing how a state like Florida or Texas can be severely affected with an openly corrupt political party and a dictator type governor, that makes me skeptical these days. I am rooting for Disney Corp. to sue the hell out of the governor in Fla. and the various GOP stalwarts that are strategically being targeted by Disney’s corporate lawyers for lawsuits. It would take a lot for me to root for Disney Corp, but after what has taken place in Florida, I am rooting for the mouse.
