This is only partially true. There are VSTs out there, that do emulation too. Reaktor (NI) for example or some of the Arturia, Korg and Roland ones. Some of them are so good emulated, that they are able to load original patches from hardware, i.e. Wavestation, alpha Juno etc.
I like the Synths that MAME have, but they have a to big delay when it comes to MIDI connection and integration in a real world hardware setup. Still nice to see them and i guess that especially the Yamaha stuff will come in handy, if emulating other stuff in the arcade world.
However it does not help to "normalize" the prices of real world hardware. Some of them are simply hilarious out of scope.
