Lenovo ThinkPad T60 circa 2007?
Core2duo 8400
ATI Radeon Mobility x1400
4gb Ram (maximum)
Windows 10 64bit
Catalyst 12.11.B11 hotfix (oh thank devs for this driver)

Starting with Mame 0.180 a video implementation was made that causes and error.
Unable to initialize direct3D 9
Your card does not support non-power-of-two-textures

To fix this, choose mame -video opengl
The fix works up to the current version 0.245
Marble Man 2 plays! hooray!

Interestingly things go slightly bad if I pause.
After unpause, things run slow but quickly recover.
Bring up the menu however "tab" crushes the game, all games.
Getting rid of the menu very very slowly brings the game back up to speed.

What does this all mean?
Buy a new PC ya dork! sheez!

I have heard over the years from others about older hardware not being able to handle the ever improving Mame and now I get it. But its interesting to note what the causes and workarounds are.

Interestingly the T60 handles discrete sound just fine such as sega vector titles and cinematronics.

There is some drag with artwork bezels and such which makes sense given the issues with the mame menus

I do wonder if the ATI Radeon Mobility x1400 is truly not capable of "power of two textures" issue but I'm highly certain the ati drivers are working properly.
Perhaps there are other -video options that would work better than opengl?
