The game had some elements be just as good as first MM such as the music, but MM2 had a bit of added on cheesy sound effects, that could have been left alone or reuse sound effects from MM. Some of the enemy opponents were okay looking. The pace of the game was much more too hectic to be enjoyable compared to MM. Those are my takes with why MM2 needed much more fine tuning in order for it to be just as good as MM.

Had Atari Games still been in business longer, they should have released MM2 in a design layout similar to
to the Sega horse racing games where there would be six to ten linked cabs. Each player has their own control layout play panel along with their own monitor. And in the middle would be some super size monitor where everyone including players and spectators could view the overall action of what is happening while players are controlling their own marble.

The cost of the entire setup would either be in 5 figure range or maybe 6 figure range, but the gameplay
would have been optimal for each player rather than cramming multiple players next to each other with a single cab.

The guess would be whether that cab layout attract players to Marble Madness or not. Back in 1970s and 1980s, it would have been popular, but today’s younger generation would probably consider Marble Madness a boring game compare to scrolling fighter games or call of duty style games.

Folks that were able to attend CAX events can consider themselves lucky since the virus plague has almost ended those type of events. Arcades and stuff like trade shows or CAX show events will probably be a thing of the past.
