Yea... not what I thought it was. Damn stuff left an oily residue, almost like WD40. 880yen wasted. 1,800 yen for brand name (DeoxIT) contact cleaner. Still no joy.
I kept dying in Metroid dread whenever I had to adjust aim down and right. In the calibration screen, the darn thing appeared to work perfectly pointing it in any direction from center. The weird part... it also worked perfectly while rotating counter-clockwise. Clockwise, however, was completely jacked up along the south-east quadrant. I would love to know how that can be, if anybody has a guess. The darn thing only has 2 sensors on it (pots?). 1 for up&down, and another for left&right. So how does it seem to be perfect counter-clockwise, but fail clockwise, and in only one quadrant? Can't see anything noticeable with the naked eye, and they come off and go on really easy (when not soldered into the board).
Anyway, after wasting my money twice and dismantling the thing 3 or 4 times trying to clean it, I wasn't going to let this damn thing beat me, so I ordered a 4-pack of analog sticks for 1,600yen. Lost track of time, but I think it took damn near 2 hours for me to get the old one out! I think I need a better solder pump. Took less than 5 minutes to put the new one in.
Had to re-calibrate, but it (and all of the buttons and other stick) worked on the first try!
EDIT: And wouldn't you know it? I got a PB on my first playthrough since I can farking AIM. Still died several times though. I have the worst luck with EMMI spawn locations... I'm not a speed runner by any means, but I got sub 2:12. I hope I can get below 2 hours someday soon. I just can't seem to get quick kills on the shadow thing (first boss), cross-bombs, and often Kraid even (kills too much time to go for the bombs first for that special kill). I can't for the life of me get the bomb trick for flash shift without going into the water (The long slow way). I've gotten much faster at camera-lock early screw attack though.
Just broke my personal record for number of consecutive days without dying!
