I am trying to start from scratch, except for roms. I've searched for info on the extras and not quite finding the answers I'm looking for. I am also grabbing the extras all at once the lazy way (with the PD torrent magnet link).
Not that it should matter to my immediate question, but I do not use a seperate BIOS folder. I have: /Roms, and /Software. BIOS/device files from the arcade side are in the root of Roms, and Softwarelist bios files are in the root of /Software. Not sure if I'm doing the right thing with those...
Main question is, do any of the extra zip files get extracted? All the old results I can find with searches suggest that people are unzipping the icons and Arcade snaps, while leaving everything else zipped. With, for example, snap_SL.zip inside of the snaps folder, with the extracted arcade snaps.
Does this sound correct? I have 32GB of RAM, but with a project this size, I'm definitely not using an SSD, and I worry about performance with things like manuals.zip being over 11GB all by itself. Then manuals_SL.zip is another 14.35GB.
Of course, neither MAMEUI nor IV Play are very friendly with Softwarelist stuff anyway, so I was thinking of finding a setup to have all the extras working properly in both MAMEUI and, unless I give up, negatron/negamame, at the same time.
I'd appreciate any suggestions to steer me in the right direction.
EDIT: Should have looked more closely at the negatron page. Seems it is already familiar with the PD set, so here's the plan (still downloading the set)
Place the contents of that set into a new folder "EXTRAs".
ADD that folder (or appropriate subfolder) to MAMEUIs directory listing for all of the things (artwork, flyers, etc)...
Assume that MAMEUI will simply use the first thing it finds (ie. if it finds an unzipped game.ico in the default folder, it will load that and stop, instead of also finding it in icons.zip within /EXTRAs and freaking out. This way, updating is easy with a new torrent set, and I'm only wasting a bit of space on snaps and icons, which I will always extract from MAMEUI.info into the default folders.
Just broke my personal record for number of consecutive days without dying!
