I've tried 5 different machines and all of them performed an F12 snapshot without any issues with mappy, mrdo, defender, punchout, scross (a variety of single/dual screen games). Can you try installing in a fresh folder and trying again? What are your machine stats/OS and media type being used for MAME? Perhaps you have a unique setting or default which isn't expected.
