It was essentially a recruitment device – taking an analog computer set up for solving ballistic weapon trajectories and making it do something that still looks cool to someone with no domain knowledge. It was supposed to make kids consider a career there. Kind of like how the Atari Bradley Trainer was put on free play at army recruitment centres.
