Scientists Create Antibody That Defeats Coronavirus in Lab

Source: Bloomberg

Scientists created a monoclonal antibody that can defeat the new coronavirus in the lab, an early but promising step in efforts to find treatments and curb the pandemic’s spread.

The experimental antibody has neutralized the virus in cell cultures. While that’s early in the drug development process -- before animal research and human trials -- the antibody may help prevent or treat Covid-19 and related diseases in the future, either alone or in a drug combination, according to a study published Monday in the journal Nature Communications.

More research is needed to see whether the findings are confirmed in a clinical setting and how precisely the antibody defeats the virus.

The antibody known as 47D11 targets the spike protein that gives the new coronavirus a crown-like shape and lets it enter human cells. In the Utrecht experiments, it didn’t just defeat the virus responsible for Covid-19 but also a cousin equipped with similar spike proteins, which causes Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome, or SARS.

S. Korean medical staff conclude people cannot be infected twice by the virus. This was determined after the scientists did further detailed examinations and testing methods.

Coronavirus: Scientists conclude people cannot be infected twice

Source: msn / sky new

A number of reported cases of coronavirus patients relapsing after overcoming the disease were actually due to testing failures, South Korean scientists say.

Researchers at the South Korean centre for disease control and prevention (CDC) now say it is impossible for the COVID-19 virus to reactivate in human bodies.

...

A total of 277 patients in the country were believed to have fallen ill for a second time, as had patients in China and Japan. This prompted concerns that the virus could be mutating so quickly that people were not necessarily immune to catching it again.

However, genetic analyses of the virus have not found any substantial changes which would effectively disguise it from the immune system.

I take the S. Koreans at their word.

They have every reason to want the truth, and none to lie.

They had a large number of cases of people who tested positive for COVID, recovered, and tested positive again. Some had symptoms or some reason to get retested. You see the problem.

Same for some cases in China, elsewhere. What's a pain to do is to test for live virus. But the S. Koreans did this, for their "re-infected" patients. And they found that there wasn't any detectable live virus. That left the PCR test, and they quantified some things and found that the PCR test was very, very sensitive and picking up small trace amounts of RNA. It's a systemic problem with the testing. (It's the same checking for heavy metals. We can get down to fraction of a part per trillion, and that some proposed limits would rule out most of even the purest ground or surface water.)

The report came out last week, Monday or Tuesday.

The remaining issue is, "What about the symptoms?" Sniffles, dry cough, low fever aren't exactly symptoms unique to COVID.

Australian intelligence knocks back US government's Wuhan lab virus claim

Source: Sydney Morning Herald

https://www.smh.com.au/politics/federal/...504-p54pk3.html

Australian intelligence agencies have questioned evidence trumpeted by United States officials supposedly linking the coronavirus to a Wuhan laboratory as concerns within the government grow that the push will derail efforts to eliminate dangerous wildlife wet markets.

Senior members of the Australian intelligence community told The Sydney Morning Herald and The Age a research document shared in political circles under the Five Eyes intelligence arrangement was mostly based on news reports and contained no material from intelligence gathering.

A 15-page "dossier" has been widely quoted by local and international media about China's alleged cover-up of the virus. Australian intelligence officials have since identified a research report which was based entirely on open source material. The officials said it was likely the reports were the same.

United States secretary of State Mike Pompeo claimed on Sunday there is "enormous evidence" the coronavirus outbreak originated in the Chinese laboratory but did not provide any facts to back up his assertion. Mr Pompeo also said he agreed that the virus was not man-made
