the interest in the XaviX stuff started with the Taito Nostalgia unit yes.
at the time the assumption was that it would probably be some kind of SNES clone with some swapped opcodes... how wrong we were.
for the Elan stuff the interest comes from a different Taito unit, the Radica one.
SunPlus I had a feeling was going to become one of the most relevant CPUs / drivers in MAME over the next few years (I said this somewhere about 2 years ago) so I decided to study that one too. I wanted to be able to get the JAKKS Namco stuff emulated as it continues the arcade story (still kinda disappointed the earlier Namco unit isn't SunPlus and probably undumpable with current knowledge as it seems to be ROM on the same die as the CPU)
VT1682 interest came from claims that the 'worst console ever' used it.. regular NES VT emulation from similar, even if in the end it wasn't really related aside from being the same manufacturer.
