Let's say, for example, that I make 4 times as much as my teacher wife. If I go in for a routine surgery and my doctor's negligence kills or permanently disables me, should my wife now be expected to live on and raise our 2 young kids on 20% of our combined salaries (plus whatever social security benefits pay)? Should she be entitled to any compensation for the loss of future earnings?
Oh for Pete's sake.
