Is there an easy way to quickly check which one? The only real way at the moment the actual executable. MAME64 is been the filename for all 64-bit MAMEs as far back as I can remember. If you are unsure, download the official binaries of the version you have (should show when you run it, or use -help) and compare benchmarks. If it is prior to version 0.120, MAME did produce 64-bit official binaries before that version.
