There's almost nothing truly HomeBrew in HBMAME, most of it is hacks of existing code. Even where there are original games many of them are built off the top of existing commercial code, and thus not really homebrew.

There's actually a lot more HomeBrew stuff in the MAME Software Lists for the consoles and computers, which is where most of the true HomeBrew scene was / is.

Think of HB as 'Hacks and Bastardization' and you have a more accurate representation of most of what's in there, and no, this isn't meant as a dig, it's just what you get. The previous name, MisfitMAME was a far better reflection of what the project was all about.

I feel the need to put this straight, as I've seen a number of people thinking that HBMAME is something they can run on a cab without worrying about copyright infringement, which simply isn't true for most of what it supports.

If MAME was a NES then HBMAME is one of those 10000-in-1 Famiclone units with 100 different hacks of Contra, and you wouldn't call those HomeBrew.
