The process is not difficult, I just don't know what the "credit switch" is. If it's #5, then fine, but why not say "coin button" if he's playing in MAME? That's why I think he's referring to an actual physical switch found in the machine. Something that can't be found in MAME.
In all honesty, I think the cheat is fake. There's no way Capcom would put a legitimate and complicated code that requires an Arcade operator to unlock characters, and to not include it in the USA version. Not even for 2 player gaming. Maybe the code did work in early test versions of the game, but I doubt the final Japanese version has a working code.
But... the dude that made the FAQ described the code with enough detail to make me believe it could be real.
