That's a very naive way of thinking.
In many cases there won't be a better way, these chips / modules are designed to keep the data secure and if designed properly will do exactly that meaning without this level of hacking there is literally no way to get the data.
In some cases, yes, things might be lost forever because there is only one copy. Some things have already been lost forever for sure (look at the NeoGeo development boards which used SRAM to keep most of the ROM data alive) Everything will eventually fail regardless of if somebody is there to try and dump them or not. We can't preserve everything.
