The crazy guy with the gun just factors armed teachers into his plan. Potentially Jittery armed teachers are far more of a threat than the occasional madman.

What about addressing the real problem of mentally ill people having easy access to guns in the first place? Most of these people showed signs long before they turned it into action. Martin Bryant was the wake-up call for Australia, and it's actually worked pretty well. We still have guns in one in three households, but we've had almost no crazy guys shooting up public venues since then.
US has a stupid-high homicide rate for a first-world country. Some self-examination is definitely in order.
