The Democrats as a whole don't give a flying fuck about Mexicans. Nancy Pelosi saved up 100 million dollars in her government career and it wasn't from caring about Mexicans. Some progressives do but it has nothing to do with being "democrat", it' just that progressives have little elsewhere to join if they ever want to change a single policy in their lifetime.
The left vs. the right boils down to tribalism. The right generally has a small tribe like their immediate family or whites from a euro decent while many on the actual left (not Democrats who are almost all centrists or right leaning) view all humans as their tribe and believe every human has the right to try to come to the US to make a better life for themselves.
