So as we start updating more artwork again to include control panels, we want to map all the controls so they are animated on screen.
Buttons are easy enough; set the element to have different PNG for states 0,1; map the element to the proper inputtag and inputmask as stated in the driver, and you have animated buttons.
4-Way joystick... same thing; each direction is essentially a button (a single input); so those will work just fine also.
8-Way joystick... is there a way to do this today, that I'm just not thinking about correctly?
Each diagonal is essentially turning on two different inputs; can I define the inputmask for an element as two inputs are on at the same time?
On YouTube, a couple users have shown a "workaround," but I don't like it. The workaround is to define the Player2 Up,Down,Left,Right as the diagonal inputs for Player1; you then use the input mask for Player2 joystick in the LAY file.
So...you now can have an 8-way joystick on screen, and it looks correct... but only for Player1; you can't even map Player2 now, because you have screwed with the CFG file for the game. Additionally, the artwork doesn't work by default "out of the box," which is no good in the first place.
If there isn't a solution, is it possible to add support for (without breaking other things, of course)?
RELAX and just have fun. Remember, it's all about the games.
