There were some other political leaders in which group photo showed Pope Francis smiling.
I guess it depends who is visiting.

If I were to rate popes in late 20th century to modern era, Pope John Paul II was best, Ratzinger (forget his pontiff title) was so-so, and Pope Francis is half way there to being as good as Pope John Paul II. Some have commented that Pope Francis is already better than Pope John Paul II, but to me he still has a ways to go in tenure before really being able to be comparable to Pope John Paul II.
