yeah, you see the same in a lot of relationships too.. there must be psychological reasons but it's one of those things we're quick to accept and makes for an easy platform to abuse people.
he's not stupid, it's all a very clear plan / way of abusing and manipulating people, he's especially good at it, appearing to be stupid helps that.
