You got what was going on. There are ~200 million registered voters. About 120 million voted. So 80 million just said meh whatever not worth my time. That is just the registered ones that does not include those who do not register at all. THAT is the real majority. Many people just do not feel it is worth their time to pick between to very rich 1%rs.

This is not the first time she has lost while carrying the popular vote. She also lost in 2008. The super delegate function of the DNC basically lets the DNC put their thumb on the scale and pick who they want. Even if Bernie had got the popular vote she still had the super delegates to make sure she won. This time she also made sure she was the only one around. Typically the DNC should have 5-10 people to pick from. This time it was basically 2. I would not be surprised if the RNC adds in similar rules.

I am torn on the electoral college thing. It forces the candidates to actually care about less interesting places. With popular vote you just hit up the major cities and make sure they are happy. I think it would lead to a lot of hard feelings when 2-3 major cities basically dictate to the other half of the country what goes on. As is people already do not feel their voice maters, they show that by not voting at all. Think of being a republican in CA. Would you bother to vote at all when you are outnumbered 2 to 1? You might get that dude in CA to vote. But then in say Montana would you care as much? I personally am getting to that point. My family is trying to talk me out of it. As is ~15-20% of the population picks the winner.
