I'm not particularly happy that Trump won the race for POTUS. Hell, I'd be just about the first in line to call for the dismantling of the electoral college, or at least replacing it with something better, given that Hillary got the majority of the popular vote.

But at the end of the day, you have to face facts: Trump won. He won fair and square. He won despite proclaiming loudly about how the system is "rigged". Whether you like it or not, he is the president elect, and no manner of rioting in the streets is going to change that.

What makes me so sickened by the left's reaction to Trump's victory is the hypocrisy of it all: Trump implying that his advisors would refuse to accept a victory for Hillary was the absolute pinnacle of sound bits during the week in which it was memetic, so why is it that so many people on the left are acting not just like spoiled children, but outright thugs, assaulting people who voted for Trump?

I, personally, didn't vote for him. I didn't vote for Hillary, either. I felt like the US could do a hell of a lot better than either of the candidates that were put forth. But it is the absolute pinnacle of hypocrisy to go out and riot on account of Trump winning, when this is the very same behaviour that you decried the right wing for threatening to do if Hillary won.

Those of us on the left should be better than this. We should be able to work together, and join hands for a better America. Yet it seems so painfully obvious that there are so many people on the left who would rather see the US burnt to the ground than to accept four years of power from a political party that, god forbid, they happen to disagree with.

And don't take this as a sole indictment of the political left, either. White hetero republicans rioted when Obama became president, and their particular deranged views were a constant talking point - despite the mounds of evidence - during the entire 8 years that Obama was in office. "We", that is, people on the left, didn't miss an opportunity to decry those people on the right for engaging in such childish antics. So why the fuck is it that it's suddenly okay when "we" do it because we encountered an election result that we don't like?

If you're a true liberal, if you're someone who really believes that each person deserves his or her own destiny in life, then it is your downright moral obligation to accept this election result and move forward, working within the constraints of the system that exists. I can understand your desire to want to burn down the motherfucker, but I cannot in any way endorse it. The only way the US is going to get any better is if people start cooperating and working together to secure a better future for everyone.
