R. Belmont, very valid point! Rest assured that I'm not here to bring sadness, but rather love to all hearts!
This was a requested feature. What happens is that some FEs need a "physical address" (aka, the full path to a zip/7z file) to be able to find the game and make it available. Many CHDs and TTLs were not being found by the FE I use and some users complained about that, so I added this feature and now all those games can be played normally and all artwork and metadata is being parsed for them as well. This is only necessary with a few FEs though. My program takes in account the MAME internal info (via -listxml) first and foremost and really does not rely on dummy roms to create lists at all! But the option is there just for when a FE do need a companion zip/7z file.
The good part is that this is optional. The user might want to check that box or they can choose to keep everything original, but at the risk of not having that game available in his FE
What I will do, though, is to log those dummy roms, flagging them for removal and add a button to do so. So at any given time, the user can simply purge those dummy roms and restore everything to factory settings
As I mentioned to Ciro, this is a list generator, with a tiny little FE part in it, just for testing purposes (so the user can test from within the list generator, instead of having to leave it every time).
If the user uses a FE that doesn't need a physical zip file to find the game, than that option can be completely ignored and unchecked!
I attached an image showing how this setting can just be turned off in the GUI.
Thank you so much for the beautiful work you guys do. I sure don't want to mess with it!
