The old bulb finally died just a few minutes ago, so I was at last able to install the future. Damn this thing is bright by comparison. The switch is currently at a bit less than half. I was ready to start using supplemental lighting (have desk lamp near at hand), but that won't be an issue. Oddly, the bulb (diffusing cover) is sheathed in a tacky (tactile, not aesthetic) synthetic, despite proclaiming it's "...in real glass...."
