Re: eventually what MAME and DICE are aiming for

I used a $4 'EasyCap' composite video to USB adapter. Its a crude device, and sometimes you get some stuttering in the recording, but it was cheap and easy.

The PCBs I record are usually from my own collection, often I have repaired them to get them working properly. Sometimes i went through the Atari QA testing procedures (if i have them) to verify correct game operation. Either way, I don't put up a video of a random plugged in pcb, TTL games usually always have one or two faults that most people don't identify. Once they see the game screen running, they call it working, regardless of whether the game is actually playable as originally intended or not. Reading the detailed game descriptions in the service manuals will often tell you if what you are seeing is correct operation - along with experience.

For now, yes, i put up my videos as a reference point, because it seems there are no other references to these bronzeage games other than the wordy descriptions in service manuals. I'm sick of seeing emulations and simulations on youtube with a bajillion hits that are NOT of the original games. Unfortunately these get referenced as sources for kids and media outlets and they see the sometimes shockingly slow or ratio-squeezed or shitty videos that these people put up and they sit back and laugh and say 'hah! look how shitty these old games are!'. The reality is, they weren't shitty, they were fast and fun, there's a reason they earned good money spawning an entire entertainment industry!

My collection is primarily Atari focussed, I have nearly everything they produced, but i do have a LOT of other bronzeage PCBs I can' resist picking up. I record what i can when i can. I also repair bronzeage stuff for other people, so when their pcbs come through my bench i will record them when i can.

If someone wanted to help me get a better video capture device then i'm all ears Something maybe that doesn't stutter. There's a lot of security camera video internal PCI or AGP capture cards out there, but its a real job to know what is decent or not, when there is an abundance fo $4 capture devices like the one i have.. the capture chips may be the same across some devices but with fancier packaging :\

enjoy.
