Hello MAMErs,
I'm currently working on my first arcade cab using an old winXP comp and a NES emulator (so not MAME). I have configured all the software for my frontend, emulator and such. The whole setup and games can be controlled smoothly with the use of only four buttons and a (4-way) joystick. For both my frontend the controlls are as such: X key, Z key, enter, escape and arrow keys. My cab is almost completed and I only need to wire my controls and I need a keyboard encoder. I want to link the arcade buttons on the encoder to the Escape, Enter, Z and X keys on my keyboard and I want to link the joystick to the arrowkeys. To clarify: YES my cab is 1 player. So I only need four buttons and one joystick; eight inputs. This is where I need help Since I only need so few inputs I think I dont need a big encoder, so something like the Ultimark Minipac would be sufficient, right? Now for the wireing, I think I want to use the full wireing/ground harness which comes with the encoder, but as I only need eight inputs, isn't there a much more efficient way to do this? To summarize, what is an effective way to send signals from my arcade buttons and joystick to the computer and simulate keypresses?
This is my first cab so I'm not very skilled with wireing, so please keep that in mind. Price does not matter, I have a more than decent budget. I'm not building a cab with two joysticks and 8 buttons per player, this may be a later project. This is just a simple cab to gain experience.
Your help is well appreciated! Yours faithfully, David -AKA Defoxx
PS. I hope this is posted in the right place, this is my first post so please don't hate me :P
