Greetings anime geeks. I'm thinking of upgrading my old Akira and GITS DVDs into blu-rays. It really puts me off that two of my fav movies can't look as good as some of the recent ones just because I have them since day one and well, I know they can look much better. I have Akira covered (another thing is when I can actually buy it) but I'm having a hard time deciding about GITS.
My usual drug dealer (freudian slip) only offers me GITS 2.0. But I prefer the original version. Yes I do, I don't consider myself a purist but I prefer the dubbing, the effects and the overall look. And I'm trying to know if the GITS 2.0 blu-ray includes the original version or not, but the reviews and data I've read here and there are not conclusive.
Some mention than the blu-ray contains the original version, and I'd like it confirmed first hand if anyone here has it. The Bin is a bunch of freaks from everywhere's land so I guess at least one of you has it; another thing is if said user still visits The Bin regularly.
Another thing I've read is that the 2.0 transfer is much superior than the original, and that the original is not progressive but interlaced, and of poor quality (some even say worse than the DVD). I'd like to know about that too.
Because if the point is watching the original GITS better than the DVD I already have, but the original contained in the 2.0 blu-ray doesn't look very good, I could skip everything altogether and try to find Mind Game or Le Planete Sauvage.
