Thank you for the feedback. I apologize to you and all for my previous frustrated response. I was trying to get a machine ready (with a deadline) and noticed a problem in MAME and just wanted to get the bug reported quickly while it was fresh in my mind.
I have since tested with a current .164 MAME version and .164 MAMEUI32, and the test mode definitely is not reacting like the real cabinet. I have tested the real cabinet with a couple different PCBs, so it not a PCB issue.
After you enter the "second" self test, the screens are definitely supposed to change. The manual outlines the expected behavior.
