I just upgraded a family member's computer over the weekend, which involved cloning her 130GB IDE drive (!) to a 120GB SATA SSD.

I used HDClone, and everything worked perfectly the first time. I'd recommend it.

Caveats: there was no hidden recovery partition to worry about, and I needed to spring for the $18 version of the software, because the free version would not clone a drive to a smaller drive. YMMV... -JW
