The forum teardown was due to a security issue actually; the hosting service byuu used to use got the main vps systems pwned and every single user VM system had backdoors installed depending on what software was on the vm. The forum software byuu used was patched to allow spamming by disabling all posting restrictions, in the DB itself, in a non-obvious way. (Also anyone could read anyone else's PMs, I think.) We couldn't figure out how to undo it, so the forum was locked and eventually deleted. I believe archive.org has a backup of it.
