Yeah. WIFI performance was an issue for me too. It was super annoying when I used to use my PS3 for streaming that netflix would always work great, but I couldn't stream anything in 720p from my PC. I tried just about every dlna streaming/transcoding app that I could find, but it was always pretty shaky.
The chromecast fixed that right up, though. Primarily because you can send it video streams a little more modern than mpeg2. So if your PC is up to it you can compress the video a bit more without losing quality.
But the Roku does all of the same stuff + has interesting content available for free. So that's what I use the most now.
And I eventually got really tired of my network dropping down to 20mbps or lower for a few seconds at a time when streaming video. So I went out and bought a NETGEAR Nighthawk AC1900 and a new WIFI adapter for my PC. Now my PC always says it's connected at 866Mbps no matter what I'm doing. So much more reliable. I won't cheap out on networking stuff anymore. It's just not worth the hassle.
