well, Emu Loader is a frontend for arcade emulators. I myself am using a MAME arcade 0.162 compile, with only arcade games.
If you use the full MAME, lots of entries are listed in EL's games list that can't be used as they are console/computer and require software lists to work properly.
These machines are useless in EL since you can't run any games with them.
Only support MESS systems if you really want to.
