Mainly music stuff. Running a bunch of VSTs, and multi-tracking, without it hiccupping. I'd prefer to keep my monitor, and I was thinking of using my existing 1tb drive, as well as the power supply (430w aftermarket). krick's suggestion is tempting.

Considering what you have pretty much *any* current processor will be better than what you have now.
For 500-800 or so you could get a decent desktop. You probably will need a new monitor or at the least an adapter for hdmi as there is not much that has dvi/vga
anymore.
I built a very capable intel nuc for about 500 bucks (16 gig ram, 320gig ssd).
Really depends on what you plan to do with it...
