KI-LLER arcade dream.....
01/17/15 02:31 AM

So I laid down for a nap this afternoon, and I sorta napped for maybe an hour. Then I wasn't ready to get up, and I stayed there - and then I was OUT. And I DREAMED.

So I was in this old Denny's or Village Inn that a family business had turned into an arcade with food in the back. I don't remember walking in, but I was in the southeast part of the building, and I was walking through looking at the games, windows off to my right, wooden horizontal blinds lowered but open. I don't remember the games they had, but they were 80s games of some sort.

There was still seating under the windows, booths or tables I don't recall, but the main area was all games. I look outside to remind myself where in town this place is - a sort of moment of lucid dreaming, although while it's in a place that is real, there is no old building like that there, never was, and the whole city was a little bit different in orientation, the northern mountains instead northeast, and the foothills much closer - oh, and GREEN like in the Andes or something! - all the way down to the city!

As I got to the north end of the building, there was a room for ordering food to my left. Walking in there was a cafeteria/buffet-like counter to the left. To the right there was seating in a sort of L, but on the other side of that was, I first thought, a pizza ordering section....except looking closer, there looked to be stripped chickens hanging.....BBQ?.....the whole section raised three or four feet up, and this sorta bob-haired, mustached Asian dude wearing a white chef hat and outfit, presiding over it, looking out waiting for people to order.

It's interesting that there was a variety of people in the place - some sitting down and eating, some at the buffet counter, some walking along in front of the pizza/chicken section.

Walking all the way into the space, then turning left, I saw some little homebrew cocktails of 80s classics - like pac games, two of them, the third one somewhere between Q-bert and Blue Print ((??)), and the graphics were sorta flash cartooned, but more like magic marker. The last one a travel game where you had to select the right route on the map or something, and the graphics were like an actual black and white map, but like a picture of it...weird. All of them were weird.

I turned around, and went back toward the arcade section, stopping at the first two games before the main area. The left game, a 25-inch monitor stand-up, was an FPS flight sim, except it was really a GI Joe-like game, where you started in an F-14. The controls were this huge, kind of exaggerated After Burner-like stick (maybe I was influenced by the sega thread posted today), and then the throttle on the left was a large (like handball large) ball-top stick, with a button on top of it.

After market or something, because when I started the game, and my character (I don't remember who) got into the plane, I discovered I had to push the throttle forward AND push the button down to take off/go forward. Kinda shaky start.

Okay.....so I'm playing the game......the graphics are like this combination of the original Joe cartoon, but a little like in the Marvel VS games of the early 00s....except this gamw was like '98.....

Anyways, I'm kickin ass, I might've lost one life, and I get to the end scene, landing at the foot of this south American temple, where I get out and go in. Just inside, and somebody's coming down the passageway toward me, but that's in shadow, so I shoot shoot shoot.....and the game pulls a cheapie on me, cos it's like Jesse Ventura Roadblock, straight out of Predator, and he's helping along this wounded big-ass black dude Joe - and I shot 'em! I remember that I did this the first time I played, some days?....weeks?....months ago?

Anyways, I lose a life, but I have another and go on, slicing and dicing....until I get to the boss: a towering Destro-like baddie. But now I'm back in the jet, dodging and parrying, shooting missiles at him that for some reason I can't see, but 'm pretty sure I'm hitting him in the face.....and finally he's DONE. Yeay!!

The end scene is something out of, like, Bionic Six or something where I'm up out in the jungle again, being regarded fondly by some hoo-boogie tribe and an Allan Quartermain-like dude. I beat the game! It doesn't let me go through it again. Well, okay.

And then I'm sitting, almost laying back, on this booth seat behind me off from the game, talking to this in ways older and in ways same-age Hispanic dude in a straw hat about how I used to watch GI Joe in '83 and all, and he's remarking about the same.....

That's about all I remember. It's still vivid. Like a real experience. Curiously, I recently watched Total Recall......I love these kinds of memories.....um, dreams.

Post script: I got up, noticed it was 70s degrees out, sunny, and calm, whereas it had been breezy earlier in the day, and I went outside to loveliness, and remembered, 'It's Friday....'. Like back when I was twelve or thirteen. And I just hung outside for a while, soaking in it.

Scifi frauds. SF illuminates.
