Hurray! I finally got it working. And it was because of you. The problem was that I was extracting everything to a usb 30 gig flash drive.
I thought it was a good idea to keep everything all in one place like that and transferable to different computers if I wanted to build a dedicated arcade machine one day etc. But it looks like it really needs to be installed in the C: drive. I wonder if labeling the folder 'mame' may even have been a requirement. Anyway thank you, I was starting to think that it was never going to work!
Hurray! I used to be one of those video game nerds that always had the high scores on games like 1943, tiger heli, twin cobra, slap fight etc and could make it to the end on a quarter then get a free game. Was a fun memory and now, decades later I get to relive these old games.
I plan to build an arcade machine with a motorized rotating screen depending on if your game is portrait or landscape.
