My wife is amazing at giving gifts but horrific at receiving them. She's literally impossible to buy for. Her list of likes and dislikes would crash a SQL database, so picking clothing, jewelry, or anything like that on my own is right out. She tends to buy stuff she likes as soon as she sees it, so picking up hints from her is out. If I go over the top and get something expensive, I get shit for spending too much money. If she makes me a list, I don't get shit but you can sense her disappointment because nothing is a surprise. There have been times where I've stood in the mall days before Christmas, wishing for a sharpened candy cane to jam into my brain and end my misery.

I think (hope) I'm good this year. She happened to mention a few things that she didn't buy, so I ordered them immediately. God bless smartphones where I can order Christmas gifts right in front of her and it looks like I'm just dicking around on reddit.
