Depending on who you ask you will get a ton of different answers on what to do with it. Some collectors are purists and can't stand to think of ANY dedicated cabinet being turned into a... yuck!... MAME cabinet. Even if it was the most common game ever. There are others that will say it's your money and you should do whatever you want.
That being said, if it's a rare prototype, I'd contact the guy at Arcade Museum and see if he can tell you more about it. He'll probably be more than happy to tell you what he knows about it and may even offer to buy it from you or point you to someone who wants one. You should be able to make a lot more than you paid for it and you can pick up a good, common cab to MAME up. They are EASILY found and VERY cheap.
