Two things working against you.. more and more pooka/fygar as you progress, they turn to ghosts almost immediately and the lowest points are at the top layers (you can see the different colors). You might be able to survive to a point, but your score will suffer. I personally haven't tried that technique but I'm sure it'll reach a bottleneck.
