Personally, I think a marathon DK would be a much less popular record to go for. The appeal of DK is that there is no fixed maximum score, but the kill screen limits any game to a manageable length. It's easy to try for a record because, win or lose, you're done in a few hours. Going for a marathon record means investing 72+ hours in some cases, which is automatically going to appeal to a smaller audience. Marathon games are interesting, but they're as much about the ability to endure boredom, discomfort, and sleep deprivation, as they are about being skilled at playing the game.
