J-PAC Issue
09/03/14 12:43 AM

I have an arcade machine converted to Mame, and I’ve been using it for more than six years now. It’s a Jamma Cab, so I’m using a J-Pac. I hadn’t played it since a couple of months and when I powered it last week, I wasn’t able to use some of the controllers and buttons. For example, I couldn't scroll up and down my game list in my emulator using the joystick. Left and right was okay, but not up and down. Some buttons weren’t working either. Same issue when playing the games.

I first thought the emulator’s controller configuration was wrong, but no, it was perfectly fine. All the keystrokes were the good ones, and I could work the emulator and the games correctly using the computer keyboard.

Then I tried a cool little program called KeyThis (it detects key strokes and displays them on-screen). When I moved the joystick left, it detected LEFT, right was also RIGHT, but for up and down, I got the same crazy symbol: |
All the non-working buttons and joystick positions had a crazy symbol like “ | ” or “ ÿ ”

Since the control panel is not the problem, and that the emulator is also working fine, I was wondering if the J-Pac could be the issue here.

Maybe it is corrupted or something and just sends wrong information to the computer?

Am I the first one to have this kind of problem with a J-Pac ?
