Hmm...I didn't even think of it from that perspective. If that's the case I hope they would still consider this for inclusion. Someone has already burned ROMs for use in their dedicated MK2 cabinet, which can be seen in the same thread linked in the OP. So maybe from a technicality standpoint it might still pass 
Yeah, it's basically a fan hack designed for tournament play...glitches removed, more balancing added, etc. This is pretty huge for the Mortal Kombat community, and I'm sure it would help spread awareness of its existence if it were in MAME. I also wouldn't have to manually switch back and forth between the official release and this version for my frontend, since it's going to get heavy usage.
