MESS and Roland MT32

Can anyone tell me:
1.How good/authentic/accurate is the MT32 emulation in MESS?
2.What is the difference between the versions and which one is best?
3.Exactly what can I do with the MESS MT32 emulation? Specifically is there any way to feed the MT32 stuff from, say, the old Sierra adventure games into it somehow? (or is the best way to deal with that to use a different emulator like Dosbox?)
