do you use command line or some UI variant of MAME? I cannot reproduce the problem on MacOSX from command line
I always use the official MAME binary downloaded from the official MAME website. I disable my cheats, I delete the NVRAM, CFG, and DIFF (if available). I experience this problem with many, many games since version 0.153. I understand that this latest version had a lot of rewrites and overhauls. Maybe should have held off on releasing it... but then again, more bugs can be found quicker and easier by having it released to the urchins.

It's a known 0.153 regression with Namco System 1 (namcos1.c) games:

Games in this driver also crash if you hard reset (shift-F3). I know why it happens and I'm working on fixing it, but it requires almost a total rewrite of the driver so it's taking a while
ok
But I think it's more than just the namcos1.c games. I gotta start making a list of the games that crash each night as I play them. Each night before I retire, I play a bunch of random games. I get lazy/tired and forget exactly which games were crashing the next day. So I'm going to start making a list.
