As to finding them, I saw a ($#@! view-whoring) 2-minute "part 1" video of the dig, wherein they said they had to research and pin down the exact location ahead of time, because they weren't going to be allowed to dig up the whole dump. Further, they were digging down to an expected concrete cap prior to the reveal.
