What you've should've done was say; "I'm a Platinum Priority Club Member, I've been to every single hotel in the entire universe and this is the FIRST TIME... EVER! I have been treated like this! Let me speak to your manager!... Oh, you're the manager?.. But not the General Manager? What's their phone number so I can speak to them? What? You can't give out personal phone numbers? Then call Corporate RIGHT NOW!"
^Just sharing some of the standard bullcrap I've had to deal with over the years.
And those weren't for lost guests... I can't say I've ever had that happen. But yeah, we (as well as all hotels... should) have strict security policies like that. But they really weren't thinking -if you ask me.
Hmm... If I was in your circumstance... Or if I were the Front Desk "Agent" (gawd, that's so corny) I would've asked to see your I.D. to verify that you are who you say you are, then proceeded to call other nearby hotels to see if that guest is registered there -after identifying myself as being from another hotel and that I'm trying to help someone that's lost... But that might depend on them believing me. The only info I wouldn't be able to get would be your Rm#. Another 'trick' (if you were able to call around to other hotels - yeah, I know your phone wasn't working so this is probably pointless) might be to say that you need to speak to "Gatinho" but you're not sure if you have the right hotel... Usually (if that person is registered as a guest) they'll transfer the call.
One way to stick it to 'em is to go to their site and post a review. If it's negative the GM may respond to it. There are other sites you can go to to post reviews, but I can't recall what they are at the moment. Holiday Inn "corporate" or whoever, likes it when people post reviews about their hotels on "Social Media" (hey, there's that word again) as a form of free advertising.
But, I do understand your circumstances... Bad luck and hard-nosed front desk clerks. Thank goodness for that kind/understanding soul working at Hampton Inn.
