The 5ghz and 2.4ghz networks are 2 different wireless networks for that router. Did you name them the same thing in the router setup?
I think krick is right and the ps3 only does 802.11 b/g 2.4ghz. I worked around my ps3 by putting in a netgear wireless router bridge that could handle 5 ghz N and plugging it into the ehternet jack in the back (still only 100mb). Not perfect but better than the 2.4ghz g rate.
For my older stuff I have considered adding another router and put it in a DMZ sort of config. I still have one device kicking around that can only handle WEP. But it would mean adding a 3rd network into the mix for something I use fairly rarely.
When I added in the 5ghz to the mix of my network stuff I just created a new network and added an '_2' on the end of the name so I could tell which one was which.
