Not for any particular reason. I used to drive a 15KHz CRT with a 64MB Radeon 7000 PCI via Powerstrip but apart from that it's been strictly nvidia + Intel CPU and chipsets since 1999.

Agreed. Also streaming games to an Nvidia Shield sounds like fun but I don't have that kind of cash to spend on toys. And it only works with a specific set of games.

I run OS X on my PC (now on my third motherboard) since Leopard. This plays a big part when I decide what hardware to buy. I paid for Snow Leopard, Lion and Mountain Lion. My current CPU and chipset are the same as used in the 2012 iMac range and my GTX 660 works out of the box in Mavericks. ATI cards are much more difficult to get running.

Last time I tried Linux (Linux Mint) I gave up when I had to edit a configuration file with root privileges to change desktop resolution. Don't know what went wrong there.

I'd like to try SteamOS when I can free up some HD space.

I don't know if that was specifically for ATI cards? IIIRC it was done with tessellation. It looked damn good on my GTX 660. I liked the game too.

I'd be happy with a laptop with HD4000 graphics or whatever. But if I had a laptop I'd use it mostly for work (audio, office stuff) and maybe watching movies and listening to music.
