To use "-bench" properly, delete your mame.ini file.

-bench corresponds to a fixed set of command line settings that runs MAME un-throttled without video or sound, which is meant to test pure CPU ability. DDRAW and D3D shouldn't come into it unless your mame.ini file is causing problems with the benchmarking.

There's some reference benchmarks here for various chips with various overclocks...
